Biography
Gus Kohler is a versatile bassist known for his dynamic stage presence,
expressive tone, and collaborative musicianship. His work spans rock,
jazz, fusion, and studio recording, bringing a grounded rhythmic voice
to every ensemble he joins. Whether performing live or tracking in the
studio, Gus blends technical precision with instinctive musicality that
elevates the sound around him.
Gus is a native of Nashville, TN, having graduated from Hume-Fogg Academic
Magnet High School in downtown Nashville. He has been playing instruments
since childhood and began a gradual migration from playing woodwinds to bass at
twelve years old and by seventeen was fully transitioned to bass as his primary instrument.
At the University of Tennessee, Gus earned a Bachelor of Music in Studio and Jazz Studies
and a minor in Music Business. There he honed his skills in performance, recording,
and music production. While living in Knoxville, Gus has been an active performer in the
local music scene, as a member of Duck and Glaver and gigging with various other Rock, Jazz,
and Americana acts.
